Burt Poley - Network Manager

Burt Poley (Hopi/Laguna) serves as Network Manager for Native Voice One, the Native American Radio Service (NV1) based at the Koahnic Broadcast Corporation (KBC) satellite office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Burt is the primary liaison to station representatives, and works with them in a range of capacities to support distribution of NV1's Native radio productions throughout the United States and Canada. Some of the programs on NV1's program roster are Native America Calling, a one-hour live call-in show; Earthsongs, a weekly one-hour music program; Reach the Rez Radio, a weekly one hour rap and hip hop show; and the 5-hour daily music service, UnderCurrents.

Burt came to NV1 after a stint as KBC's Station and Audience Relations Manager for National Programs. He previously served as Production Engineer and Announcer at KNAU, located on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Burt's radio roots stretch back to KUYI Hopi Radio based on the Hopi Indian Reservation in Northeastern Arizona, where he served as the station's first Operations Manager and Co-Station Manager.

Prior to his involvement in the radio industry, Burt earned nationwide acclaim as an award-winning Katsina doll carver. His Hopi name is Someheptewa, which means, "looking for ripe corn." He is from the Hopi village of Bacavi, located on Third Mesa in Northeastern Arizona and a member of the Bear clan from the village of Paraje near Laguna, New Mexico.

If you interested in any of the programs that NV1 distributes, Burt would love to hear from you. Reach him directly at bpoley@nv1.org or 505.277.5354.
